Dating back to the 9th century, Zadar is still surrounded by grand medieval walls and fortunately for us, it's still often overlooked from the more well-known cities of Dubrovnik and Split. The Roman forum is central to the old town and a must see, and various other sites dotted around the city with features from Roman, medieval and Venetian influences. The city has also entwined the old and the new in a magnificent way with the famous sea organ and greetings to the sun protruding from the edge of the old town in it's own unique position.

Zadar is in a perfect location along the Dalmatian coast. Settle into the hostel for a few days and throw yourselves into our cultural surroundings. Splitting Croatia's 4 famous national parks, all within 2 hours drive or boat. Take our affiliate tour to the famous Plitvice Lakes National Park and see some spectacular lakes and waterfalls. Krka National Park with its rich history is only an hour along the coast. Kornati Islands has various excursions daily, giving you a chance to see some of Zadar's famous archipelago and finally Paklenica Hiking Park is a mere 40 km away situated along the Velebit mountain range, with stunning trails and caves to explore.

Neighbourhood

Arbanasi

The Lazy Monkey is situated in a quaint seaside neighbourhood just a short 30 minute stroll along the coast from the old town. Often seeming like time stands still here, the peaceful community has a proud history dating back to the 18th century where Albanian settlers moved into the area to position themselves amongst other migrating neighbours including Croats, Venetians and Greeks. With Arbanasi's coastal roots, to this day, it's still bringing new faces into its community with open arms, including us over a decade ago.

Situated at the southern Peninsula of Zadar town, Arbanasi is perfect for travellers to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city centre. It has its own supermarkets, the main bus station is positioned within a 10 minute walk of the hostel and the waterfront is divine. Its white rocky coves are accompanied by shades of pine trees and the waterfront park which is only a 6 minute walk from the Hostel is a perfect spot to cliff jump, sunbathe or drink a beverage or two at our local watering spot.
